Making Laundry a Little Easier

The Learning Goal

The goal of the project was to find a simple interaction and improve it. My research, sketches, and iterations eventually lead to the creation of a modular laundry control unit that could be used to upgrade older laundry machines. The new design looked to simplify the process by focusing on what the user wanted to achieve rather than specific terminology like “Permanent Press.”

Learning Outcomes

The success of the product was largely a result of validating the improvements with users. The delight in moving the dials, the success of icons used, and the trust despite the new layout was only possible through continuous testing.
