Communicating Complexity: Mycelium (Fungi)

Learning Goals

The project’s aim was to explore something that seems small but is in fact so large that explaining it is a huge challenge. Inspired by the organic connections made by Mycelium networks, I wanted to find a way to easily explain the surprising connections Fungi make all around us.

Learning Outcomes

Inspired by the learn graphics generated by an algorithm that simulates mushroom systems, I tried to create a display that was minimal in color but very high in motion and interconnections. The original timeline focused more on fungi’s relationship with humans, but soon it was clear that this point, while interesting, was a distraction. The end result was a peaceful and tranquil exploration into the complexity of mycelium and the greater world.
